The driver of a car that crashed early Thursday during a drag race with another vehicle was reported in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after her arm was severed, said a city police spokesman.
The driver of the other car was being sought. Agent Donny Moses, the spokesman, said three women were in a 2010 Chevrolet Impala at Orleans and North Washington streets about 4 a.m. when the 19-year-old driver of the Impala challenged another driver to a race.
During the race, the Impala’s driver swerved to avoid the other car and crashed into a retaining wall. The other car continued on. Moses said a witness drove the Impala driver and one passenger to Shock Trauma, where the driver underwent surgery. The passenger was reported in good condition. The second passenger was not injured. Charges were pending the results of an investigation by traffic police.
